Ophthalmologist Kiev - medical center Renaissance Technology clinic
As you know, the eye and its inner shell - the retina - are part of the nervous system, carried out to the periphery. Everyone also knows that the nervous system does not recover. The majority of traditional doctors are of the opinion that there are a number of diseases that lead to disability and do not respond to treatment. But alas, this opinion is wrong. To date, technology has gone far ahead and the situation has changed radically, but not everyone knows about it.
Retinal diseases can be hereditary and acquired (due to trauma, infections, atherosclerosis and hypertension, diabetes mellitus, due to age-related changes). Retinal dystrophies are divided into central and peripheral. In most cases, vision loss is facilitated by the pathology of the central retinal zone. Peripheral degeneration can narrow the field of vision or cause retinal detachment.
What diseases can be cured with the help of cells?
Diseases that can be treated with stem cells: retinitis pigmentosa, partial atrophy of the optic nerve, optic nerve atrophy in glaucoma, macular degeneration (including Stargardt's, Best's dystrophy and others), Fuchs' spot (Fuchs's dystrophy), diabetic angioretinopathy complex treatment, in multiple treatment ... The use of stem cells accelerates rehabilitation after retinal detachment surgery. And these are not all diseases that we treat.
The principle of action during the procedure
The action of stem cells is based on the ability to replace damaged cells, improve the trophism of the optic nerve due to an additional capillary network, restore neural connections between the layers of the retina, trophic nutrition of nerve cells, correct intracellular trophism, normalize the work of enzymes, exchange of chromoproteins, nucleoproteins, replace the affected neuroreceptors cells and cells of the retinal pigment epithelium. With the help of embryonic stem cells, it is possible to achieve an improvement in visual acuity, color perception, expansion of the field of vision and to obtain a stable remission of the disease.
The effect of the therapy:
Retinitis pigmentosa (pigmentary abiotrophy of the retina Fig. 1) - improvement of visual acuity and expansion of the field of vision, slowing down the process of progression of blindness, transfer of the disease into permanent remission.
Partial atrophy of the optic nerve (Fig 2) - increased acuity and expansion of the field of vision.
Atrophy of the optic nerve in glaucoma (Fig. 3) (with compensated intraocular pressure) - neuroprotection and expansion of the boundaries of the visual field
Macular degeneration (including Stargardt, Best) is an increase in visual acuity and a slowdown in further deterioration of vision.
Rehabilitation after operated on retinal detachment and endovitreal injections of Ailia and Avastin - restoration of neural connections between the layers of the retina, trophic nutrition of nerve cells during and after the mechanical and toxic action of silicone, stimulation of the growth of new capillary networks for nutrition of the retina, prevention of retinal ischemia.
Fuchs spot or Fuchs dystrophy (with high myopia) - an increase in visual functions and resorption of fresh and old hemorrhages.
Diabetic angioretinopathy (Fig. 4) - angio- and neuroprotection, resorption of hemorrhages in the retina, improvement of the vascular endothelium, prevention of plasma impregnation of the retina and the formation of druses, reduction of the likelihood of vitreous hemorrhage.
Method of treating eye diseases
Each patient is treated individually, after a preliminary diagnosis of vision and a series of laboratory tests.
Many factors are taken into account and the order of treatment, the route of administration of drugs, the type of cellular material, specific
preparatory therapy and the time required to obtain the desired result. Preparation for implantation is a very important stage in treatment. The drugs are administered depending on the indications and the disease: intravenously, intramuscularly, into the sub-Tenon space, parabulbar, retrobulbar, subconjunctival, paravertebral, endolumbar, sutured into the subcutaneous tissue.
The results of treatment directly depend on the age of the pathological process, the presence of factors affecting the disease, the cause of the disease. In most cases, repeated treatment is necessary to consolidate the results obtained.
Hereditary diseases do not respond well to treatment, but these diseases are not hopeless either.
Treatment time in the clinic is from 3 to 10 days, depending on the severity of the disease and the treatment program.
